Alastair is the Chief Executive of Social Investment Scotland (SIS), a position he has held since 2010. Under Alastair’s leadership, SIS has grown to be one of the UK’s largest social investors, making investments of over £80m in 400 organisations whilst also developing a bespoke market development programme supporting social enterprises to grow and scale their sustainability and impact. He is leading the development of SIS’s new strategy to ‘Build an Impact Economy’. Originally from Glasgow, Alastair has a degree in Economics and Human Resource Management from the University of Strathclyde and spent the early part of his career with the Bank of Scotland, laterally in the Community Banking team looking after relationships with some of the UK’s largest charities. He has completed the prestigious ‘Strategic Perspectives in Non Profit Management’ Programme at Harvard Business School, and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers. He serves on the boards of the North East Social Investment Company in England and the Scottish Children’s Lottery, as well as on the advisory board of Scottish Edge. He lives in Leith, Edinburgh with his husband Brian and they are proud uncles of twin girls.
